SPACE Framework: Measure activity outputs and productivity

SPACE Framework: Activity

The Activity dimension measures productivity outputs—the work completed and shipped. This tab shows what your team has delivered in code and production.

The Activity tab shows what your team has delivered—PRs merged, code quality, and deployments. You can view this data grouped by time periods (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) or by Jira features (epics and issues) when you connect your Jira account.

Key Metrics

PRs Merged

Track the volume of pull requests shipped to production. See weekly/monthly trends and per-period averages.

Code Quality

AI-powered quality scores (0-100) for shipped code. Track average quality across all merged PRs.

Lines Touched

Total code activity with additions and deletions breakdown. Understand the magnitude of changes shipped.

Deployments

Production releases in the period. The most direct measure of what actually shipped to users.

Performance Tiers

Each metric is rated on a four-tier scale based on industry benchmarks:

Elite

Top performers

High

Above average

Medium

Room to improve

Low

Needs attention

Two Ways to View Your Work

The Activity tab offers two viewing modes. You can switch between them using the toggle in the view, or set a default in Team Settings → Activity Preferences.

Time View

Group shipped PRs by weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly periods. Perfect for sprint reviews, release notes, and tracking velocity over time. This is the default view.

Feature View Requires Jira

Group PRs by Jira epics and issues. See all work related to a feature in one place— how many PRs, who contributed, quality scores, and AI-generated summaries. Ideal for stakeholder updates and feature retrospectives.

Jira Integration

Connect your Jira Cloud account to unlock Feature View and see your PRs grouped by the epics and issues they relate to.

Setting Up Jira

  1. 1 Go to Team Settings and find the Jira Integration section
  2. 2 Click Connect Jira and authorize access to your Atlassian account
  3. 3 Select the Jira projects you want to sync (only projects you have access to will appear)
  4. 4 Coderbuds will sync your epics and issues, then automatically link PRs based on naming conventions

How PR Linking Works

Coderbuds automatically scans your PR titles and descriptions for Jira issue keys. The pattern we look for is: PROJECT-123 (uppercase letters followed by a hyphen and numbers).

PROJ-123: Add user authentication → Links to PROJ-123
[ABC-45] Fix payment bug → Links to ABC-45
Implements TEAM-789 and TEAM-790 → Links to both issues

Best Practices for PR Naming

  • Include the issue key at the start of your PR title — e.g., "PROJ-123: Add login feature"
  • Use consistent project keys — match your Jira project key exactly (case-sensitive)
  • Link to specific issues, not just epics — we'll automatically roll up issues to their parent epic
  • Multiple issues are fine — mention several issue keys if a PR spans multiple tasks

PRs Without Jira Keys

If your PRs don't include Jira issue keys in their titles or descriptions, they'll appear in an "Unlinked PRs" section at the bottom of Feature View. This ensures:

  • No work is hidden — all PRs remain visible even without Jira links
  • Easy to identify gaps — see which PRs need better naming conventions
  • Complete reporting — stakeholders see 100% of shipped work

Unlinked PRs also appear in Time View grouped by their merge date.

AI-Generated Summaries

Generate executive summaries for time periods or features with one click. Summaries include:

TL;DR

A one-sentence summary of what was shipped

Executive Bullets

Key highlights for stakeholder updates

Business Impact
