SPACE Framework: Satisfaction & Efficiency
These dimensions measure developer happiness, fulfillment, well-being, and the ability to complete work with minimal interruptions or delays. Together, they capture both how developers feel (Satisfaction) and how well they can maintain flow state (Efficiency).
The Satisfaction tab tracks developer happiness, team well-being, and productivity flow through regular, anonymous surveys. This combines both Satisfaction (how developers feel about their work) and Efficiency (ability to maintain focus and flow state) into one holistic view of developer experience.
6 Key Metrics (Satisfaction + Efficiency)
Happiness
Overall satisfaction with work. Are developers fulfilled, engaged, and enjoying their work?
Focus Time (Efficiency)
Availability of uninterrupted work time. This is a core Efficiency metric measuring flow state and minimal context switching.
Collaboration Quality
Team communication and collaboration effectiveness. Are code reviews constructive? Is knowledge shared well?
Tools & Technology
Satisfaction with development tools and technology stack. Are tools helping or hindering productivity?
Growth & Learning
Opportunities for skill development and career growth. Are developers learning and advancing?
Overall Satisfaction
Aggregate score across all categories. The primary indicator of team well-being and morale.
Performance Tiers
Satisfaction scores (1-5 scale) are categorized into four performance tiers:
4.5 - 5.0
Exceptional satisfaction
4.0 - 4.4
Good satisfaction
3.0 - 3.9
Moderate satisfaction
< 3.0

Survey Types
Weekly Pulse Surveys
~1 minuteQuick 3-question check-ins focused on immediate experiences: happiness, focus time, and collaboration. Tracks week-to-week trends without survey fatigue.
Monthly Deep Dive Surveys
~5 minutesComprehensive 15-question surveys covering all five satisfaction categories in depth. Provides detailed insights for improvement planning and trend analysis.
Privacy & Anonymity
Anonymous by Default
All satisfaction survey responses are anonymous to encourage honest feedback. Team leads see team-level average scores only, never individual responses.
Configuring Satisfaction Surveys
Team admins can configure satisfaction surveys in Team Settings → Satisfaction:
Enable/Disable Surveys
Toggle weekly pulse surveys and monthly deep dive surveys independently
Schedule Configuration
Set day of week, time, and frequency (weekly or bi-weekly for pulse surveys)
Privacy Settings
Keep anonymous (recommended) or enable individual response visibility (not recommended)
Acting on Satisfaction Data
Low satisfaction scores are early warning signs. Here's how to address common issues:
Low Happiness
Check workload, clarity of goals, and interpersonal dynamics. Consider 1-on-1s and retrospectives.
Low Focus Time
Reduce meetings, minimize interruptions, establish "no meeting" blocks, use async communication.
Low Collaboration
Improve code review culture, implement pair programming, host team knowledge sharing sessions.
Low Tools Satisfaction
Invest in developer experience, upgrade tooling, provide training, reduce tech debt.
Low Growth Opportunities
Create learning opportunities, implement mentorship programs, support conference attendance, rotate projects.
